Nazem Kadri

The waters are still even after free agency as Colorado Avalanche’s center Nazem Kadri remains unsigned. Though there’s a current flowing recently towards the New York Islanders. Free agency started three weeks ago but there’s been nothing but rumors surrounding Kadri’s signing.

Among the many NHL teams, one of them is frustratingly keeping quiet amidst all noise. Their general manager has yet to open his mouth regarding who, or when he will be signing. A report from SportsNet’s Elliotte Friedman on his “32 Thoughts” podcast said that the Islanders are currently in a mix.

There’s been no movement since the New York Islanders traded Alexander Romanov on the first night of the draft. They either are or will need to clear some cap space if they want to sign Kadri, but they could be a potential contender for sign-up. Though the complications don’t end here.

The Islanders already have their team pretty much set, while Nazem Kadri is looking for a long-term contract, and if the dots connect they can include him in their chart. Kadri’s playstyle will no undoubtedly bring the best of Islanders immediately, one that they need, while also he has a career-best of 87 points with the Avalanche last season.

The Islanders’ cap hit is a bit shaky at the moment, as per nypost.com. They would require some deft maneuvering. With extended players like Noah Dobson, Romanov, and Kieffer Bellows, the team would have a hard time getting Kadri. Then again, the Islanders are looking for a maximum of three to four years of the deal, and not four to five years which may potentially harm them in the end. Whereas Kadri has a different expectation in mind.
