Pavel Francouz celebrates with Stanley Cup

Goalie Pavel Francouz sure had his day full with the Stanley Cup celebration on Friday at his hometown Pilsen in the Czech Republic. He clearly stated that this surely wasn’t the last time, but he will try to celebrate such victory time and again. The party was held at the Pilsner Urquell Brewery which is reputed for brewing one of the World’s famous lagers.

He stated, “You want more, you want to experience that again and again,” Francouz said. “And I believe we can. We will be strong again and will have a chance to repeat. It would be great to win it again. If we play like we did this year, we would certainly have a chance.” More than 1000 fans gathered to have a moment with both the Cup and their favorite player despite the mid-90s temperature.

The Avalanche goalie stated, “The Pilsner Brewery is an iconic place for the people of Pilsen, and I am glad I can celebrate here”. “I grew up in Pilsen, and beer is connected with joy.” Francouz and the Stanley Cup peeped from the U.S Army jeep which had a U.s flag on one side and the Avalanche on the other. As the people came close by, he lifted up the Cup from his knees and cheered in joy.

He stuck with the lager. Despite having the urge to eat something from the Cup, he did quite well in restraining himself. As on nhl.com, he stated, “I am enjoying it very much. I was able to celebrate with my family and the closest ones first, we had breakfast with the Cup”. “Yet I did not eat anything from it, although I know some guys put goulash, halusky (a dish made of noodles or dumplings popular in the region) or porridge inside. I chose a different approach.”

Franxouz played a huge role in Avalanche winning the Cup in 2001. Though he was a backup player for Darcy Kuemper, he went 6-0 in the playoffs with 2.81 goals against average and a .906 save percentage when Kuemper was injured. He swept up the Edmonton Oilers by winning in all 4 games during the Western Conference Finals.

This season he is expected to share goalie duties with Alexander Georgiev after Kuemper signed a 5-year deal with the Washington Capitals on the 13th of July. It was the 3rd time that the Cup has visited Pilsen and the first Cup in the Czech Republic since 2021. Francouz said, “I believe this event will be fun”. “Maybe it can help bring young kids to play hockey and give them the dream that they can bring the Cup back here one day too.”
