“Quest for Stanley Cup” – Colorado Avalanche’s run for championship comes to an end in 2022
Colorado Avalanche wins the 2022 Stanley Cup for the first time since 2001
Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog shares how his childhood dream has come true, after winning the 2022 Stanley Cup Championship and hoisting the Cup wearing the Avalanche jersey. He said, “When I grew up I had a picture on my wall of the Colorado Avalanche in 2001, the Stanley Cup team”. “My dream was to be one day in the picture wearing that jersey.”
The details of the final game start from Game 4 with Tampa Bay Lightning down to 2-1 at Amalie Arena. Lightning coach Jon Cooper encouraged the team by saying “Win your shift”. But it was Avalanche centre Nazem Kadri who scored the win at OT for Avalanche in his series debut after missing the first three games due to thumb surgery. Kadri said it was “a roller coaster of emotions, thinking I was done. Sitting here now, it’s surreal.”
The final horn put an end to the Avalanche’s run for the Stanley Cup
The stress is slowly cooling down after the Colorado Avalanche snatched the 2022 Stanley Cup from the two-time reigning champions, the Tampa Bay Lightning, at a 2-1 win on Sunday at Amalie Arena. Avalanche defenceman, Bowen Byram is currently enjoying his time with his family, who were living with him during the playoffs.
Lightning forward Corey Perry is relishing the moment of playing hockey with mini-sticks in the living room with his 4-year-old son Griffin. Perry lost to the Lightning when he was part of the Dallas Stars and last season with the Montreal Canadiens. As per nhl.com, later Perry signed up with Lightning.
Perry said, “Then I got a phone call from [Lightning captain Steven Stamkos] that day saying ‘We’re not done, we’re still hungry and we want to win more’”. “That stuck with me since the day I signed, and I won’t forget that.” Though the Lightning won Game 5 of the series, giving them a push on, they fell short in Game 6 of the Finals.
