“He’s played terrific for us” – President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford stamped “priority” seal on Bo Horvat’s contract extension
Bo Horvat
Vancouver Canucks are now in a state of emergency as the team captain Bo Horvat’s contract is about to expire after this season. They are trying to sign him up with a new deal, but as of now, there’s been no progress. If by chance the Canucks couldn’t keep their captain, the other NHL teams will be jumping on the opportunity.
President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford commented to Sportsnet 650 that there’s no movement in negotiations as of now. The 2023 National Hockey Trade deadline is on March 3. It’ll be a stressful moment until the team finalizes the new contract.
Jim stated, “Our priority is to keep Bo”. “I give him a lot of credit. He could lose his focus here and be thinking about what’s going to happen with his contract and whatnot, but he came in ready to play and he’s played terrific for us.”
“I hope that keeps going. I hope we can sign him. If we can’t sign him, the better we play, the better return we’re going to get for him, so it works out for everybody, but ideally we can figure out a way to keep Bo in Vancouver.”
The team is currently focusing on signing Bo Horvat before e hits the market
The Canucks captain got drafted during the 2013 NHL Draft by the team and has won the Wayne Gretzky 99 Award as the MVP in OHL. In NHL, Bo Horvat leads second behind Edmonton Oilers Connor McDavid after Horvat recorded 12 goals in 13 games. The forward is 1 point behind Elias Pettersson for the team lead.
Considering the team’s performance in the NHL season, Horvat stated, “We have a lot of belief in this group, we have a lot of belief in ourselves. I think we’ve played a lot of good hockey, enough to know that we’ve got a really good hockey team here.”
“Obviously, we’ve got to clean up parts of our game, but for the most part, it’s about dialling it in and playing a full 60 minutes and not giving up leads.” For now, the focus is on playing well in the season and getting ready to challenge the Cup, while the team prepares for contract signing with the captain.
