One of the most intriguing storylines in sports is of a long-serving member returning to the club with another team. In these cases, the players are usually considered club greats who would later leave them and return with a different outfit. Such was the case with Bo Horvat who returned to the Vancouver Canucks with the New York Islanders. It was safe to say he was left emotional.

During his return, some fans would rain down boos at the start. However, they would later raise and applaud their former captain as he made his return to the Rodgers Arena. The team would play a video in his tribute while thanking him for his services.

The Islanders number 14 was visibly moved by the reception from the crowd and could be seen shedding tears while trying to hold some back. Having spent nine seasons with the club, he would lead the team from the front as their captain from 2019 to 2023.

The Canucks would share the video of him on their X account with the caption, “Welcome Back, Bo!“. Check out the reaction of Horvat on his return to the place he called home for nine long years.

Canucks spoil Bo Horvat’s return with 4-3 overtime victory over Islanders

When a player like the status of Bo Horvat returns to face the team he previously represented, the spotlight is usually on him and his new team. In this scenario, the spotlight was for all the wrong reasons as the New York Islanders have been struggling this season. Having started the season strongly, they had lost five on the bounce.

At first, it seemed the fairy tale for Horvat’s return had come to life as he scored to give the Islanders the lead. The Canucks would find themselves trailing 3-1 on the night. They would score twice late on to force overtime. Horvat’s return was spoiled when Quinn Hughes stuck in overtime to give his side a stunning victory.

The Islanders have now lost six on the bounce. Despite a strong performance throughout the game, they exploded late on and conceded three goals to condemn themselves to another defeat.

Where does the defense of Islanders go from here is the next big question. If they were to overturn their season, there need to be some serious changes in tactics at the back. Now with a 5-6-4 record for the season, they take on the Seattle Kraken next time out. The fans would be hoping the team can come together strong and avoid a seventh consecutive loss.
