Re-signing one of the top players on a team is undoubtedly a celebratory event, but this time team’s ‘Little Ball of Hate’ had something in demand. Brad Marchand set the celebratory standard for Pasta stating, “He better be buying everything today, moving forward. I think that’s the expectation now”.

Without the contract, the 26-year-old would have hit free agency after his long 6-year contract came to an end by this season. GM Don Sweeney said, “Our goal was, all along, to make him a lifelong Bruin”. Pastrnak had time and again stated his wish to stay with the team. Thankfully things worked out prior to the March deadline end.

David Pastrnak spoke fondly after signing his deal on Thursday about how much it meant for him. He said he would like to follow in the footsteps of players like Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci. “It’s huge”, he said according to NHL.com.

“These are the guys I grew up with, pretty much, my NHL career. I’ve been learning from them every day. It’s an amazing accomplishment to play your career [for] one team and that’s definitely what was stuck in my head going into this negotiation. I’m honored and happy that I’m staying here — and I can’t wait to get to work.”

Boston Bruins president Cam Neely said he’s excited to forward to eight more years. Pastrnak’s deal has always been on the top priority list according to Neely. In his NHL career, Pasta has made 571 regular-season appearances scoring 587 points with 282 goals and 304 assists.

In the Stanley Cup playoffs, he made 74 points with 30 goals and 44 assists in 70 games. Bruins captain Patrice Bergeron said, “He’s been an impactful player for us”. “I’ve said that many times. He’s a game-breaker. He has that ability and he just keeps taking his game to the next level.”

The Bruins have been on a roll for the 2022-23 season, and with his huge contract extension, the team has no interest in pausing anytime soon. The Bruins have also made hefty trade deals, one of them being the acquisition of Tyler Bertuzzi.

Pasta who won the Maurice Rocket Richard Trophy in the 2019-20 season leads the Bruins in goals securing 9th rank within the team. Pasta said that Bruins is his “home away from home”. Brad Marchand commented, “Yeah, happy for him”.

“He’s been having an incredible year. And obviously his body of work is there, he’s been a great plater for this team for a long time. Good to see him get rewarded. Nice to have it done so it’s not hanging over his head, and the team’s head, moving forward and you can just focus on playing and trying to have a good run here.”
