Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand will be stepping on the ice sooner than the previously given timeline. Progress has been there and both the player and the coach are looking positively at the current output. To prove Marchand’s health further, the forward participated in Wednesday’s practice.

He played on the same line as before beside Patrice Bergeon and Jake DeBrusk. This offseason he had his double-hip surgery which has been ailing him for quite some time. Thankfully due to the team’s stable winning condition, the 34-year-old can solely focus on his recovery.

Coach Jim Montgomery stated, “I’d like to see [Marchand] tomorrow; that’d be five weeks ahead of schedule”. “I don’t expect him to play tomorrow, no. He’s ahead of schedule.”

“He’s going to play before Thanksgiving (Nov. 24). As you can tell, he’s starting to look good out there. His timing is starting to come. Whatever the doctors have said, it’s hard to push that beyond a certain limit of your recovery time.”

On Thursday the team will be hoisting their game against the Detroit Red Wings at TD Garden. Till now they have won 6 of their 7 starting games with a 6-1-0 score. This is enough to put the forward winger in a state of peace. If the condition was negative, Marchand would have joined the season earlier.

He said, “It’s a double-edged sword”. “You want to be part of the team’s success, but it makes it very easy to take the time that I need to come back when the team is winning the way they are. If we were 1-6, it would be a completely different story. I probably would have been back a month ago.”

On May 27, Marchand had hip arthroscopy and labral repair on both sides.  Though the recovery timeline was set to 6 months, it is clearly getting closer now. He noted, “I would like to try to speed it up, but that’s out of my hands”. “So, I just kind of let the trainers and doctors do their part.”

Regarding Marchand’s speedy ice debut, he stated, “My range of motion feels awesome”. “I’m really happy with how I feel coming back and figuring that all out. Very happy with the pain as well.”

“It’s been six or seven years since I have played without pain in my legs and groins and hips and stuff. So, it’s a treat to not have to worry about that moving forward. It feels really good.”
