Vancouver Canucks coach Bruce Boudreau‘s broken voice during Saturday night’s interview has caused serious lash-outs on social media. Boudreau is one of the most beloved coaches in the National Hockey League, given Canucks performance and their current movement fans are beyond enraged.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman confirmed on Saturday that his time with the team is limited. It may be a few weeks or by the end of this month. It is reported that the Canucks have already found their new replacement in the name of Rick Tocchet. He’s a former Pittsburg Penguins assistant coach and current studio analyst for TNT.
Reporter Rick Dhaliwal commented on why they are not firing Boudreau right away, “Someone told me he’s gotta give a four-week notice at TNT or something to that effect”. “It’s a process. It takes time.” Fans are deeply upset by the way the Canucks are treating Boudreau and Canucks president Jim Rutherford’s few remarks just made the situation worse.
Fans on rage after rumors of Bruce Boudreau started circulating in NHL sphere
As Bruce Boudreau braced himself to face the camera’s on Saturday night, he was hurled by questions regarding his firing. He commented in a shaky voice, “I just wake up every day and go to work until they tell me not to”.
The fans have already been quite disgruntled by the Canucks play this season, and Boudreau’s comments just added fuel to the fire. As of now, the team is lingering with a score of 17-22-3, capturing the sixth spot in the Pacific Division only above Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks.
The team’s lack of motivation has been quite a debatable topic following their series of losses. Their most problematic area is the penalty kill is just within the boundary of 66.1 percent and holds the last position in the league.
Given their situation it’s not strange that the Canucks are eager and desperate for some changes, firing Boudreau seems one part of it. According to Dhaliwal’s assumptions, “Later in the month is what most people are hearing”.
“I heard Rick Tocchet‘s name last weekend, and they are talking to him [. . . ] Most people in the industry that you talk to are thinking two, three weeks away. It’s their decision.”
Even the recent Saturday night 4-3 loss against Florida Panthers made things worse. This 2022-23 season is just not going right for the Canucks. No matter when the team officially decides to break the news to Boudreau, it’ll be a heartbreaking situation for the fans.
