Vegas Golden Knights coach Bruce Cassidy finally got his closure with his former team, the Boston Bruins on Monday. Both teams brought on some East and West showdown, as the Golden Knights whipped the floor in a 4-3 shootout win. It was a surge of mixed feelings, as Cassidy stood in front of the Boston crowd at TD Garden, but with an opposing team.
Shortly thereafter, he was honored by the Bruins through an emotional video tribute, the Bruins thanking him for all his efforts and accomplishments with them. His expression during the ongoing video said it all. Cassidy later stated that he is thankful to Boston and all that they have offered.
Though the night was emotional, Cassidy stated that he would love to come back here again and play against them. He stated, “It’s over. I really enjoyed my time here”. “It’s time to focus. I’m focused on Vegas, … but it’s just not an ordinary game.”

When asked if he would like to return for the playoffs, Bruce Cassidy said, “That’s something I’ll get choked up about. I appreciate it. I did what I could here to help the team win. Now it’s on to Vegas. I’ll do what I can here”. “It was a really nice gesture by the Bruins organization. I appreciate it. I’m thankful they did it. Grateful.”
Later that night, Cassidy found the Bruins captain Patrice Bergeon waiting for him to catch up a little. “We were just sharing some thoughts on each other and our time together. It means a lot to me”. “I have a lot of respect for pretty much every guy in that locker room.”
“I’m used to hearing Dirty Water at the end of the game. I’m glad I didn’t hear it tonight. … I’m just glad to come in here and play well”. ”They were happy. They got a little money from me, so the Cassidy college fund went down a little. But I was happy to pay it.”
As a defenceman, Cassidy played with the Chicago Blackhawks prior to retiring. Apart from the Bruins, and Golden Knights, he has also coached Washington Capitals. Though the Bruins didn’t win any Cup during Cassidy’s reign, he did lead the team to the Stabley Cup Finale, for the first time in his career.
