Ex-NHLer Daniel Briere’s son Carson was branded with three criminal charges following the wheelchair incident. Earlier in the week, Carson and his friend pushed an unoccupied wheelchair down the stairs at a bar in Pennsylvania. Their “inexcusable” behavior was condemned not only by law but also throughout the internet.
The video went viral as soon as it got uploaded. His father and current Philadelphia Flyers GM Daniel Briere were shocked to see the video online. He stated that there can be no excuses for his son’s behavior stating this goes against their family laws.
According to Yahoo.com, Carson and his friend “legitimately thought it was funny”. The Mercyhurst hockey player is currently facing charges of criminal mischief, criminal conspiracy to commit mischief, and disorderly conduct in Eric County, Pennsylvania. His friend, Patrick Carrozzi, a member of the lacrosse team is also facing similar charges.

Carson Briere and Patrick Carrozzi are expected to attend court on May 22. According to police, the issue could’ve been more serious if any member were to climb up the stairs at that moment, or if it had blocked the path. Regardless of the charges and accusations, Sydney Benes became the victim of this unfortunate incident.
Benes was all hyped up for partying with her friends when she needed to use the restroom downstairs. She was physically carried downstairs only to come back and witness her broken wheelchair in front of the entry path. In the video Carson was caught sitting on the chair, getting up, and pushing it before joining the party with glee.
Sydney Benes commented on Inside Edition, “All that kept going through my mind was: ‘God I hope this was an accident, I really hope somebody just accidentally bumped it down the stairs somehow’”. “They were laughing about it. It was really hurtful and disrespectful and just kind of heartbreaking”.
Benes, who got her legs amputated following a car accident hurtfully said, “Carson was told to come apologize to me and the apology was quite insincere”. “People were saying: ‘Oh, he’s acting like a child.’ No child would throw a wheelchair down a staircase, in my opinion, because they have a heart and morals.”
Apparently, Carson’s apology at first wasn’t heartfelt as he added, “Do I still have to go?” Daniel Briere who was shocked looking at the incident said, “I was shocked to see Carson’s actions in the video that was shared on social media yesterday.”
“They are inexcusable and run completely counter to our family’s values of treating people with respect. Carson is very sorry and accepts full responsibility for his behavior.”
Carson apologized for the Saturday incident, stating, he was “deeply sorry” for his behavior and “there is no excuse” for his actions. It was all done in a state of “serious lack of judgment”.
