Colorado Avalanche general manager Chris MacFarland has given a positive update on Gabriel Landeskog’s condition, much to the fans’ relief. The team has been holding down the fort for their captain’s return since last year. Following the 2022 Stanley Cup victory, Landeskog has not been seen on ice as he has been dealing with surgery and rehabilitation.

According to the GM, the 30-year-old is “doing incredibly well” and may return by the 2024 Stanley Cup run. He’ll be missing out on the entire 2023-24 regular season games and “it’s hard to put a timeline” on his exact return date as of now.

However, MacFarland noted that they are right on track and he’s been getting better following his surgeries. Landeskog has been dealing with a nagging knee injury which forced him out of last season entirely. Even though the forward has been out for two consecutive seasons, the team is still holding onto the games for his best possible return.

This also goes to show how much the team respects Landeskog as a captain and is willing to give him the chance to come back for a powerful Stanley Cup run. Although the team went for the Cup contention this year, they were wiped out in the first round by Seattle Kraken.

The team heavily suffered last season as many of its players went into IL, forcing the team to lose in 7-game against Kraken. The three trio players – Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar, and Valeri Nichushkin will be making their way into the regular season starting in October.

With them back in the team, the Avs will have a good chance to grab the crown for the Central Division. Needless to say, the team has been missing their captain Gabriel Landeskog on the ice, “We miss so much about what he brings…just his presence in the room, being one of our emotional-barometer guys”.

GM called Landeskog “He’s our Viking” noting his presence, and leadership on and off the ice. As of now, the 30-year-old has undergone three knee surgeries in a 15-month timespan. His first surgery was in March 2022, where he missed 23 regular season games but returned for Game 1.

His second surgery was in the same year in October which forced him to miss the entire season and the playoffs. The latest surgery was performed in May this year. Hopefully, the forward recovers and is back on the ice to support and lead the team during the playoffs.
