It seems that the 2023-24 season is off to a great start for the Chicago Blackhawks and Pittsburgh Penguins. Fans are waiting to see the two NHL stars Connor Bedard and Sidney Crosby match up during the regular season after the Blackhawks phenom noted the latter as his “childhood idol”.

Bedard has often talked about how meeting Crosby was one of his dream come true, and how much he respects and looks up to the Pens phenom. While the pair remains at the center of attention, fans are also keen on seeing how much the Pens trio Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang can help the team advance following the start of the 2023-24 season. Unfortunately last year both NHL top teams, the Penguins and Washington Capitals missed out on Stanley Cup contention.

After meeting Sidney Crosby in Las Vegas, Connor Bedard labeled it as “awesome”. He said that ‘The Next One’ is “my childhood idol in the hockey world” and spending time with him and getting to know him on a deeper level “has been great for me.”

The duo shared an interview as the Penguins shared their image on their social media profile. Both No.1 picks of 2005 and 2023 were seen mingling as they got their images and videos captured at the America First Center. When asked how Bedard feels about October 10, the 18-year-old said that currently, he’s trying “not to think about it too much” and is rather interested in keeping focus on the training camp.

He called the Pittsburgh Penguins a “pretty legendary group” mentioning Crosby, Malkin, Letang, and Erik Karlsson.” Bedard said that facing off against players like them and marking his debut on ice “would be pretty special”. This season will also be important for the Blackhawks as they’ll be without franchise stars Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews for the first time since the 2007-08 season.

Bedard further praised Crosby while talking about his game control and offensive zone skills. “Just his complete game. He’s such a 200-foot player, so you can learn a lot from him.” He noted that “It’s been good” to see NHL stars up close and witness “how they carry themselves” on the ice.

Bedard has not only met Crosby at the media tour but also LA Kings’ Anze Kopitar and VGK’s Jack Eichel. The hyped-up face-off against Blackhawks and Penguins will be on October 10. Fans can’t wait to see what miracles are created on ice as the group of NHL stars start off the regular season games.
