The 2023-24 NHL is truly underway and it seems rookie Connor Bedard is feeling the presence of it now. The Chicago Blackhawks forward was the number one draft pick this year. While his impeccable skills and talents have made him a huge name among the fans already, his action on Monday’s night win seems to give away that he is starting to settle in.
The 18-year-old was spotted showing signs of frustration after missing his shot during the power play. He was seen slamming his stick along his team’s bench after his powershot shot hit the goalpost.
Though there is nothing wrong with doing this, some people were amazed to see this reaction from the former Regina Pats captain. The pressure in big games can get to even the best players. This was the case with Bedard who has spoken on several occasions about how he wants to do better whenever he is on the ice field.
As the season unfolds it is likely that his points tally will increase. There are also chances that he could learn to control his emotions properly. Here is the video of him slamming the bench with his stick that has drawn attention from the hockey faithful:
Blackhawks hammer away Maple Leafs 4-1 to hand them first loss of 2023-24 season
The Chicago Blackhawks and the Toronto Maple Leafs are two of the most renowned names in the NHL. An early pairing between these two giants was a treat to the fans. On top of that, they got to see the battle with Connor Bedard and Auston Matthews. Before the game, the rookie’s skillset was praised by Matthews.
The Maple Leafs center player though was riding high on cloud nine with his performances. The Maple Leafs’ star recently became just the fifth player to open the season with hat-tricks in two games.
As Matthews chased a shot a history, he was stopped by the overwhelming defense of the Blackhawks. While the Maple Leafs were able to hold off Bedard from the scoresheet, they were unable to contain the others. Three goals in the second period from Corey Perry, Tyler Johnson, and Mackenzie Entwistle saw them take a 3-1 lead. John Tavares had level up matters at 1-1 but the Blackhawks answered back with two more goals.
With time running out, the Maple Leafs decided to venture forward with everything they had. This meant there was an empty net situation at the back. The visitors took full advantage of it and put the game beyond bed as Taylor Raddysh scored an empty net goal after Taylor Hall was denied one earlier for offside.
The Hawks continue their tour around as they take on the Colorado Avalanche next time out. Meanwhile, the Maple Leafs will have the chance to bounce back from this defeat against the Florida Panthers on Thursday night.
