Connor McDavid praises Jack Campbell for his accomplishments

Edmonton Oilers captain and center, Connor McDavid commented that goalie Jack Campbell’s experience in the limelight with the Toronto Maple Leafs will help him reach greater heights in his game. McDavid stated with confidence that the 30-year-old goalie can handle lofty expectations with the Edmonton Oilers.

On Monday at the Zach Hyman Celebrity Classic at the Oakdale Golf and Country Club in Toronto, McDavid stated, “For sure. I mean, if you can be the starting goalie for the Leafs you can be the starting goalie anywhere”. “Obviously, this is the hockey hotbed and there’s a tremendous amount of pressure on whoever fills that net. He’s occupied that job for the better part of two years and he’s done a great job of doing it, so I’m sure it’ll transition smoothly.”

Goalie Jack Campbell penned down a 5-year $25 million contract with the Oilers on July 13th. From 2019-22 with the Leafs, Campbell recorded a score of 51-14-9 with a 2.50 goals-against-average, a .916 save percentage, and 7 shutouts in 77 games. He will be starting with the Oilers in the next game, having a 23-year-old backup Stuart Skinner along his side. Campbell’s performance proves that McDavid didn’t place high expectations on the wrong person.

As per nhl.com, McDavid commented, “I don’t know him a ton personally, just had a couple of conversations with him since he signed”. “He just seems to be a real positive guy and brings a lot of good energy.” “Obviously, his game speaks for itself. It’s taken him a lot longer than some to get to this position, but there’s no one more deserving than him. He’s put a lot into it and I’m sure he’s going to be great for us.”
