Oilers captain Connor McDavid and Penguins captain Sidney Crosby are often compared by NHL fans every now and then. Especially now since the Oilers failed to quench their Stanley Cup drought, fans have started comparing their Cup achievements in past years.
Both are legends in their own league and have time and again etched their names on the NHL starboard. Crosby has won the Stanley Cup three times in his career, while McDavid surprisingly has yet to win a Cup. The factors dictating the reasons behind such records may be debatable.
While some say, the two stars shouldn’t be compared considering they reign in different eras, others prefer to match their records every once in a while. Team, partners, coach, and organization all play a part in winning a Cup.

One tweeted, “Having a generational talent does not guarantee a Cup. You need team building and depth in NHL.” Likewise many are of the view, that the Oilers can do better in roster management and build up a team providing their core players the best they can.
It’ll surely be a factor in next year’s Stanley Cup run. Connor McDavid expressed he has absolute faith in the core players and they all believe this loss is a lesson that’ll pave the way for a better year.
McDavid stated that mostly every player is signed on for the next couple of years, including him and Darisaitl. The team has a youth core and “everyone is in the prime of their career.” The failures of today will surely plant the seed for next year. The team is confident about their next run and has already started moving on.
Many compared Sidney Crosby and McDavid on social media, drawing in heavy arguments. Some even stated that McDavid and Draisaitl are Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout of the NHL. Regardless of comparisons between players, the Oilers will have an eventful offseason in building up their strength for the regular and post-season run.
Draisaitl commented, “I think we have the right pieces in place to get it done”. All that is needed is to go out, play and win the game. He further said that this year’s loss will act as fuel for next year. The team is ready to re-evaluate their stance and “come back stronger” and as a better player.
