In the past few months, the spotlight around Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid has increased. The forward had one of the most amazing seasons ever seen in the NHL last time out as he collected over 150 points. The audience and his teammates were left in shock as he coolly produced these great numbers. However, McDavid is not a fan of these stats and rather wants to win more.
The desire and hunger for winning usually define a player. The 26-year-old forward has shown this desire and hunger while going forward. His teammate Vincent Desharnis, has shared a story about this and claimed that their leader is not someone who looks over the stats too much.
He recently made a bold prediction that McDavid will be unstoppable next season and break several records. The defenseman has once again praised his leader and shared an encounter where he learned that the forward has no interest in stats.
“After (a game) I went to see him and I’m like,’ Hey man, sorry, that was a bad pass on me, sorry dude,” Desharnis started off his story. He later explained how McDavid turned around and said ‘Dude, I don’t care about the stats, I just want to f****ng win,’ and I’m like, ‘ Alright, got it captain.” The defenseman shared this story while appearing on the Sick Podcast.

Winning is something that everyone obviously wants. However, things also do not pan out the way they were initially hoped. Since his debut in the league, the hype revolving around Connor McDavid has been huge. Individually he has delivered from time to time. It is the team performances that have pulled him down. The question now once again arises, Can McDavid lead the Edmonton Oilers to Stanley Cup glory?
Last season the Oilers were looking as heavy favorites to win the whole tournament. With the presence of Leon Draisaitl alongside him, the team was labeled as one of the best offensive sides. Unlucky they were unable to progress to the final rounds, falling 4-2 to the eventual champions Vegas Golden Knights. The recent story shared by Vincent Desharnis regarding McDavid points out that he is eager to lay a huge mark on the franchise and help them reach the promised land.
His forward partner Draisaitl also pointed out their desire to lift the Stanley Cup next season and boldly claimed that they are the best team in the league. The shots have been fired. Whether they will hit the target remains to be seen as the pressure firmly mounts on the backs of the Oilers to deliver next time around.
