The Arizona Coyotes have taken a severe step as they terminated the contract of forward Alex Galchenyuk after he was arrested.

A few days after his surprising arrest, the Arizona Coyotes have now terminated Alex Galchenyuk’s contract. The forward player signed with the franchise as a free agent following the end of the season. As per the police, he was arrested on multiple charges and even threatened them using abusive and racial language.
Alex was arrested for damaging private property after hitting it with his car. He was also charged with misconduct for showing resistance during arrest and failing to cooperate with the officials. The big charge among them was his threatening and racist language. As per a police report, he was heard saying how he would attack an officer and his family, including their children. This incident came less than two weeks after the 29-year-old joined the Arizona Coyotes.
According to a team statement, they informed fans about the situation and ensured to take quick action against him. They added how the team quickly moved to terminate his contract through direct league procedure once the allegations were revealed. “The Arizona Coyotes today have exercised the team’s right to terminate the contract of Alex Galchenyuk,” the team informed.

While Alex Galchenyuk was released a day later, the damage was already done. This would have been his third stint with the Arizona based side, previously appearing in the 2018-19 and 2021-22 seasons. In his first appearance for the club, he managed to score 19 goals and 22 assists while he managed a return of 6 goals and 15 assist in his second season.
What happens next is uncertain as of yet. This incident has surely left an unwanted impression on other NHL teams that would be willing to sign him. Galchenyuk has become a popular name among teams in the past few years. Having joined the Montreal Canadiens in 2012 through the NHL draft, he spent six years with that franchise. He has represented several big franchises including the Pittsburgh Penguins and Toronto Maple Leafs.
