In the world of sports, some injuries can be very dangerous. The hockey world is still trying to come to terms with what happened with Adam Johnson recently. In the midst of this, a major gap in treatment in the NHLer Juuso Valimaki has now surfaced leading to several questions regarding player safety and their medical care.

During the game between the Dallas Stars and the Arizona Coyotes, Valimaki was stuck in the face from the puck. The hockey puck flying at 93 mph speed broke down some of his teeth. He exited the game and was transported to a nearby hospital. The shocking part here is that he was left untreated for several hours. An investigation by the NHL and the NHLPA is now underway for lack of medical care towards him.

That’s right, Valimaki could have tragically passed away due to asphyxiation of his own blood. Fortunately, he was able to get the treatment needed and fly back home the next day through a flight. However, this case is now under investigation as he could have gone horribly wrong.

My eyes, my nose, my big jaw, my throat, everything is fine. Realistically, it could have been so much worse... I’m lucky that I’m playing again after two weeks.

Luckily for Valimaki and everyone involved with him, he was able to return to the sport he loves. The 25-year-old made his return recently but continues to wear a protective mask.

Questions are also being raised about the two teams and whether they broke any medical protocol. If something were to happen to him, there could have been severe consequences for the league and the medical staff at the hospital.
