HOF Daniel Sedin and Henrik Sedin prepare speeches meticulously even after shying away from “spotlight”
Daniel Sedin and Henrik Sedin
Both would-be Hall of Famers, Henrik Sedin, and Daniel Sedin are quite soft-spoken people, but their personalities are making them nervous for their celebratory weekend. The twins have to prepare a speech and come in front of a crowd, which they are not looking forward to.
Though celebrating their 17-year NHL career with friends, family, and fans is motivating them to take a spot on the ice at the induction celebration on Monday. They’ll also be joined by their ex-teammate and fellow inductee Roberto Luongo as he’ll play defense in the Legends Classic Game.
On Wednesday, Henrik stated, “We don’t really like to be in the spotlight, but you’ve got to take it for a few minutes.” Daniel noted, “That’s the one thing we both are maybe a little bit nervous about, the speech.”
“But you try to enjoy it and just go up there because you want to also thank all the people that have been with us throughout all these years.” Though they are jointly preparing to move into the spotlight, they’re also making sure their thank-you speeches don’t come up the same.

Elected into the HHOF (Hockey Hall of Fame) on June 28, the Sedin brothers joined the company of Daniel Alfredsson, Riikka Sallinen, and the late Herb Carnegie. In their Vancouver days, they have spent some memorable times with Luongo, being the Canucks No. 1 goalie for 8 seasons.
They are grateful for their drafting by the then-Canucks GM Brian Burke to give them the opportunity to stay and play in the same team in the NHL. All throughout their careers, they had the support of each other, and they’ll be depending on it for the induction speech too.
Daniel said, “That’s something you think about, not on a daily basis, but often”. “A lot of things have gone the right way and we got a chance to be on the same team and I think we wanted to make the most out of it, and that’s I think what we’re proud of.”
After getting drafted in the 1999 NHL Draft, the Sedin brothers topped the Canucks chart of all-time lists. Henrik won the Hart Trophy as NHL MVP and the Art Ross Trophy as the League’s leading scorer. While Daniel snatched the Art Ross Trophy and the Ted Lindsay Award. Their competitiveness and companionship were well-known throughout the team.
