Canadian ice hockey right winger David Perron has agreed to a two-year, $9.5 million contract (average annual value of $4.75 million) with the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday.

The 34-year-old forward had 57 points (27 goals, 30 assists) in 67 regular-season games for the St. Louis Blues last National Hockey League (NHL) season, apart from 13 points (nine goals, four assists) in 12 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

“Obviously, there were several options I was bouncing around in my head with my agent, my family and everyone,” Perron said, as quoted by NHL.com. “The Red Wings are a team, with some of the signings that happened today, they’re ready to take the next step in their evolution as a team, and I wanted to be a part of that.”

Apart from St. Louis, he has represented the likes of the Vegas Golden Knights, Anaheim Ducks, Pittsburgh Penguins and Edmonton Oilers, and has 61 points (24 goals, 37 assists) in 104 playoff games. Notably, he had only ever signed a contract with the Blues, until Wednesday, despite having played for five teams.

“Obviously, we were trying to make it work for a while with the Blues, but it didn’t work out and I’m excited to be with the Red Wings,” Perron said. “That’s what I’m here to talk about obviously today. I think it’s special. Any time a guy like (general manager) Steve Yzerman calls you, it captures your attention big time. You want to hear what his plan is all about.”
