Without Adam Boqvist’s three-year contract signup, the defenceman could have become a restricted free agent. On Wednesday he avoided the crisis by signing up with the Columbus Blue Jackets, a deal worth $7.8 million for 3-years, with an annual average value of $2.6 million.

The 28-year-old defenceman has set the NHL high in career goals and points this season. He achieved 11 goals and 22 points in 52 games for the Blue Jackets. He was selected by the Chicago Blackhawks back in the 2018 National Hockey League Entry Draft as the 8th overall.
