“It’s been a great experience” – Defenceman MacKenzie Weegar eager to move into new city, Calgary

MacKenzie Weegar
Calgary Flames defenceman MacKenzie Weegar is excited and thrilled to be moving to the glamorous city, of Calgary. Not only with the city, but he is very content with how the team is moving in an excellent direction, starting with the signing up of Jonathan Huberdeau, earlier this month.
Huberdeau signed an 8-year $84 million contract with the Flames this month. Weegar’s excited to have him on the team, and commented, “I’m happy for him, he deserves it all. He’s worked so hard in Florida and I’m glad to see him make a home for himself now that he’s getting a little older and he can settle down in a great city like this. It makes me really happy to see him (sign an extension) and all the success he’s been having.”

MacKenzie Weegar takes a sneak peek at the Calgary city
In a few short weeks, MacKenzie Weegar would be moving to be a full-time Alberta resident, as per nhl.com. But moving in a few weeks seemed too long of a time for the defenceman so he decided to get a sneak peek of the city by himself.
He commented on CalgaryFlames.com, “It’s a loose little vacation, you could say, coming down to Calgary – seeing the city, seeing the rink, and meeting you guys and the organization”. “It’s been a great experience. Checking out the history and the rink, saw the lounge, the gym, the dressing room, saw where all the boys hang out, and got that experience I’ve always wanted to get before I get here. It’s been a great time.”

Not only Huberdeau, but MacKenzie has also skated with Blake Coleman, Nazem Kadri, and with Nikita Zadorov. He commented, “What a great group I think we have”. “Obviously, on paper, it looks great.” “We’ve had some great battles (he and Coleman) in the past. I’m happy to be on his team, I’m thankful for that. Same with Kadri, too, we’ve had some great battles in the past. Another great addition to this team.”
He further stated, “It’s a competitive group back there”. “Everyone wants to play big minutes and that’s what pushes everybody. I think it’s going to be a great group. I think everyone is going to be positive and push everybody in the right direction. I think, obviously, Tanev and Big Z (Zadorov) and those guys are leaders back there … I’m looking forward to just stepping in and joining that group of great, solid defencemen.”
