Though defenceman Simon Edvinsson stated that he didn’t get the full opportunity to grab the benefits of the training camp, he definitely did learn what he intended to. The Detroit Red Wings prospect arrived in Detroit after a delay due to travel issues.

Most of his ice time was reduced to the 3-on-3 tournament on the final day. He said, “It was just awesome to get here after all the struggles with the planes and everything”. “Today was about getting to know everyone, and I’m going to be staying in town for the next three weeks to work with a lot of these guys.”

In the World Junior Championship, he scored 2 points with 1 goal and 1 assist and helped Sweden snatch the third spot. He’s now on a break, before the Red Wings‘ upcoming training camp. Edvinsson noted, “I want to be in the lineup on the first day of the season”. “I know I’m going to have to work hard because we have a lot of great defensemen, but that’s just more motivation for me.” “I’m going to show everything I’ve got.”

Both Edvinsson and Mortiz Seider achieved great success in the Swedish league before joining the NHL team. The Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman said, “Mo had that year in Grand Rapids and a year in Sweden after being drafted”. “Simon has a year less experience and he’s a year younger. We’ll see how he does this summer, and he’s bigger and thicker than I expected — in a good way.” “We’ll give him a chance, and the World Juniors will be a great stepping stone for him to lead into camp.”
