The game series between the two New York teams have been a much-heated affair over the past couple of days. The series has considerably caused a rivalry between the fans, especially when the Devils have taken the lead. However, on Game 5’s embarrassing loss for the Rangers, some other things also went south.
One Devils fan appeared to conflict with another fan from the Rangers side, and things quickly escalated during that situation. With the entire fiasco being caught on camera, it can be seen that the conflict escalated quickly towards violence, wherein the Devils fan was slapping the drink off the hands of the Rangers fan.
This further resulted in the Rangers fan grabbing the Devils supporter around the neck and knocking him unconscious with a chokehold. The Devils fan falls on the ground and spills his beer everywhere and on himself. The others at the stands tried their best to avoid such a conflict, with one woman trying to restrain the Devils fan from acting further. However, the fan probably had to face the worst consequences, with thousands of people in the audience witnessing the fiasco and the internet reacting.
Perhaps for the upcoming games in the series, fans of both teams expect to maintain decency in the venues and avoid such conflicts. While rivalry does set in a healthy form of competition in sports, however, when things go down south, it should be the responsibility of the fans to overcome their differences and mitigate conflicts, ensuring the sporting spirit is still in place.
The Rangers overcome a slow start against the Devils in Game 6
The New York Rangers entered the playoffs in quite a strong form, seeming to be ready to face all the challenges ahead for Stanley Cup. However, things don’t seem to be going in their favor as the New York Devils gave a tough time to the Broadway Blueshirts in their opening-round playoff series.
The Rangers had an intermittent pace at the start of this playoff series, winning Games 1 and 2 at Newark. However, the Devils took the lead from the Broadway Blueshirts with their 4-0 win at the Prudential Center.
However, on last Saturday’s Game 6 of the series, the Rangers bounced back from their slow start to win 5-2 against the Devils. At the start of the series, the Rangers generated only 21 percent of the shots share in the games and had an 8.13 percent of expected goal rate. However, the Blueshirts generated 1.25 expected goals in this game compared to the Devils’ 0.21.
Chris Kreider seemed to be in incredible form, averaging a score of 3.98, followed by Mika Zibenjad’s 3.17. One of the game’s best highlights was Zibenjad’s drive with Chris Kreider in front, giving the Rangers a much-needed power-play goal to clutch the game.
NFL star Aaron Rodgers was also present in the audience for the game, with the crowd erupting on him being shown on the video screen at the Madison Square Garden on Saturday.
The Rangers will next meet the Devils for Game 7 on Monday for the third time, following the 1994 conference finals and 1992 division semifinals. The Rangers won both the previous Game 7s on those occasions.
