Dustin James Brown is an American professional ice hockey player and the alternate captain for the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League. After getting drafted by the Kings in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, he plays as the right-winger for the team. He was chosen as the 13th overall pick and Dustin has spent his entire professional career with the Los Angeles Kings. He led the team in the 2012 and 2014 Stanley Cup championships and became the 1st Los Angeles Kings captain and 2nd American captain to win the Stanley Cup with a 6-game victory over the New Jersey Devils in 2012.

Dustin also played with the Zurcher Schlittschuh Club Lions during the 2012-13 NHL lockout in the Swiss National League A. He also represented the U.S. at 3 World Championships and 2 World Junior Championships. Dustin also won a silver medal as an alternate captain of the United States National Team at the 2010 Winter Olympics. Dustin Brown started playing junior hockey at the young age of 16. He was drafted 26th overall in the second round of the OHL Priority Selection Draft by the Guelph Storm. He participated in 3 seasons with the Guelph scoring 194 points in 174 games. Later he was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. After signing a 3-year entry-level contract with the Kings he played his first NHL game against the Detroit Red Wings on October 9, 2003. 

Dustin scored his first NHL goal on November 22, 2003, in a 2-0 win over the Colorado Avalanche. He became a free agent at the end of the 2005-06 season and signed a two-year contract before the start of the 2006-07 season. Dustin Brown represented his best offensive play season during the 2007-08 games. He reached the 30-goal plateau during this time. He was named the team captain on October 8, 2008, becoming the youngest captain of the Kings and also the first American captain in King’s history.

He was chosen to represent the Western Conference at the 2009 All-Star Game. Dustin scored his 100th NHL career goal on January 14, 2010, against the Anaheim Ducks. In July 2012, he enjoyed his “Day with the Cup”. During the 2012-13 lockout season, he finished with 18 goals and 29 points in 46 games. Dustin Brown led the Kings to another Stanley Cup title in the 2014 Stanley Cup finals. He was awarded the Mark Messier Leadership Award at the end of the 2013-14 season. 

He was later replaced as the team’s captain by Anze Kopitar in June 2016.  The following year Brown played his 1,000th NHL career game. The Los Angeles Kings defeated the Colorado Avalanche in overtime 2-1 where Dustin scored the game-winning goal. On April 28, 2022, Dustin Brown announced that he will be retiring after the completion of the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs. To honor him, the Kings made him the team captain for the Los Angeles Kings’ final game against the Canucks.
