Vancouver Canucks alternate captain Elias Pettersson finally silences the noise by confirming his stay with the team in the wake of his contract expiration after this season. According to reports, the deal is expected to be for 8-year around $100 million. The contract is ready to sign whenever the forward feels like it.

Following trade discussions for quite some time, reporter Frank Seravalli’s tweet on X seemed to have calmed the Canucks fans. Although it’s not a done deal yet, Pettersson’s interest to stay with the team is an improvement. He said, “Let’s end all this nonsense. Let’s get a deal done, I want to stay in Vancouver.”

Canucks aren't getting any indication from Pettersson that he wants to be here long-term. There's frustration there. Vancouver's gotta do their homework...when it comes to a trade.

Canucks and Elias Pettersson having positive contract extension talks amid trade noise

Although, Elias Pettersson wanted to wait till the end of the season before talking about an extension, seems like the talk is going to end on a positive note. As per Elliotte Friedman, trade discussions among Canucks and Hurricanes advanced to a point where the team decided to re-attempt their extension talk with Pettersson before making things more complicated.

Thanks to positive negotiations, it seems Canucks fans can relax a bit until the official contract deal is announced. Given Pettersson’s stellar 2023-24 performance, the team made efforts to keep him within the franchise. The 25-year-old was drafted in 2017 with an entry-level contract of 3 years at $7.35 million annually.

Following his penning of the upcoming 8-year contract with the team, it is expected to take effect at the beginning of next season. So far, the forward has amassed 29 goals, 46 assists, and 75 points in 61 games played. Throughout 386 regular season games with Canucks, he has accumulated 165 goals and 233 assists for 398 career points.
