Ice hockey defenceman Ethan Bear and forward Lane Pederson signed a 1-year contract with the Vancouver Canucks after their trade with the Carolina Hurricanes. An official statement about their trade was made this Friday.

Ethan signed a 1-year $2.2 million contract, while Lane penned up a deal with a cap hit of $2,200,000. Both players are yet to participate in the 2022-23 NHL run. In return for the trade, the Hurricanes received a 5th-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft.

In for of Ethan, GM Patrik Allvin said, “Obviously, we’ve watched him through the Western Hockey League starting in Seattle and had an early start in Edmonton and got traded to Carolina, and hopefully he’s excited to come back to Canada, and be part of the Vancouver Canucks and hopefully this will give the coaching staff more options on the back end”.

“He’s a very smart defenseman and he showed early in his career in Edmonton that he is a really good puck mover and transition defenseman.”

While coach Boudreau stated, “I haven’t seen Ethan play in a long time, but I remember him in Edmonton as a very good puck-moving defenseman and very aggressive offensively, so we’re looking forward to having him here.”

Selected in the 2015 NHL Draft, Ethan has a score of 47 points with 13 goals and 34 assists in 190 regular-season games for both the Oilers and the Hurricanes. During the playoffs, he recorded zero points in 8 games. Lane has yet to play this season, but as of now, he has zero points in 4 games with Chicago of the AHL.

In the regular-season games, Lane acquired 5 points in 44 events with the Coyotes and the Sharks. On Friday the team won against the Pittsburgh Penguins in a 5-1 win, with Canucks at a record of 2-5-2. The team tasted victory for the first time this season on Thursday’s game against the Seattle Kraken with a gap point of 5-4.
