“He’s in good spirits” – Evander Kane successfully underwent wrist surgery, arrives in Florida for game against Panthers
Evander Kane
Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane successfully underwent wrist surgery after his wrist got accidentally slashed by Tampa Bay Lightning’s Pat Maroon. The accident occurred after he collided with Lightning defenceman Philippe Myers, but thankfully he applied pressure on the cut and the medic team immediately helped him out.
The accident surely scarred the match a bit, as it was paused for several minutes following the gruesome accident. Aside from the grim outcome during the match, the team won 3-2. Currently, Kane is in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, waiting for his teammates to arrive for the next game against the Florida Panthers at FLA Live Arena on Saturday.
Though Kane will not be participating physically, he’ll be there for his team and later fly back with them. The good news is he is in better shape both mentally and physically after the surgery. He’ll not be wearing his skates for the next 3-4 months. Coach Jay Woodcroft said, “He’s in good spirits”.

Woodcroft further commented, “He came through his procedure pretty well. Everybody seems to be in a good spot with where it’s at.” “He’s stabilizing and he’s going to be around his teammates”.
“Eventually he will fly home with us when we go back to Edmonton. He’s in a good space physically, he’s in a good space mentally. Now it’s just about making sure he takes the time to convalesce properly and get up to speed and let time take its course.”
After getting placed on the long-term injured list, Evander Kane tweeted on social media, “Thank you all for the kind wishes and prayers from over the past several hours”. After signing for 4-year $20.5 million contract with the team, Kane has a record of 13 goals in 14 games with 5 goals and 8 assists this season.
He further left a note, stating, “Obviously last night was an extremely scary moment for me and I’m still in a little bit of shock. I would like to thank the entire training staff of the Edmonton Oilers and Tampa Bay Lightning, along with all the doctors and paramedics who rushed to help treat and repair my injury.”
“Without all of you, I know things would’ve been much worse and I’m sincerely grateful. I won’t be back next game, but I will be back, and I look forward to being back on the ice playing the game I love alongside my teammates in front of our great fans.”
Forward Mattias Janmark made his debut with the Oilers in the recent game against the Carolina Hurricanes, after being called from the Bakersfield of AHL. Forward Klim Kostin has also joined the team. Woodcroft said of Kane, “He’s a top player in our league”. “He’s a well-respected teammate. He brings a lot to our team night in and night out.”
