At last Crosby’s wish came true as forward Evgeni Malkin penned down a 4-year $24.4 million deal with the Pittsburg Penguins. The team announced Malkin’s signup on Tuesday. With this deal, Malkin is expected to carry an annual average value of $6.1 million and has a no-move clause throughout the deal. All along he wanted a 4-year deal whereas the Penguins offered him a 3-year contract.
Penguins general manager Ron Hextall noted, “Evgeni is a generational talent who will be remembered as one of the greatest players in NHL history”. “His hockey resume and individual accomplishments speak volumes about him as a player, and we are thrilled to watch him continue his remarkable legacy in Pittsburgh.” The fans are ecstatic to have the trio back.

As noted on nhl.com, Brian Burke told the Tribune-Review that the Pittsburg Penguins and Evgeni Malkin have been trying to come into a contract for a while but they have not yet succeeded in re-signing the 35-year-old center. Though that did change after Tuesday night.
Burke further denied rumors that stated the team was not willing to offer a 4-year contract to the veteran center. He said, “We made an offer that we were comfortable with”. “There are stories out there that we never offered a four-year deal; that’s completely false”. “But as far as the mechanics and the amounts, we never talk about that stuff.”
