In a shocking turn of events, former NHLer Alex Formenton surrendered himself to police. The professional hockey star turned himself in connections over sexual assault allegations from a 2018 incident.

Formenton was part of the Junior Hockey Canada team whose image was tarnished forever. Several members of the team have been alleged of sexual assault. The development of Formenton turning himself in was confirmed by his lawyer Daniel Brown.

Formenton previously appeared for the Ottawa Senators and was currently playing in the Swiss League for the HC Ambri-Piotta. He has been granted indefinite leave for personal reasons. This allowed him to return to Canada where he turned himself in to the Ontario police.

The news about this was earlier shared by The Globe and The Mail. According to them, Brown, the lawyer of Formenton, has emphasized that the player is hoping to vigorously defend his innocence and has pleaded for the fans to not rush in their judgment without hearing all of the evidence. As per further reports, a total of five players are likely to be charged in this case.

The London Police of Ontario is now expected to held a press conference on February 5 and brief the people about this scene. Till then it is likely that the police and the authorities would not comment further on this matter.

As per report from HockeyFeed, the players involved in this scandal could likely face a maximum penalty of 14 years in prison. A charge of common sexual assault usually carries a sentence of 10 years. However, this could be increased to 14 years if the charges were upgraded to gang sexual assault.
