The night was wide awake on October 23 as the Wells Fargo Center radiated with life. Fans welcomed San Jose Sharks forward Oskar Lindblom’s return on ice through a standing ovation.

The forward tapped his heart three times and stood before the crowd waving at them, hoping his heartfelt voice reached the fan’s ears. The arena vibrated with melodious cheers, as Lindblom stated, “I was trying to tell them they’ve meant so much to me during my time here and I just wanted to show my love to them”.

The Philadelphia Flyers posted a video on social media captioned, “All the Brotherly Love for @oskarlindblom”. It was his first season game with the San Jose Sharks since the Flyers bought out his contract in July. Just like the fans, Lindbom celebrated a special night at the arena on Sunday.

During the first half of the period, Oskar Lindblom was honored through a video tribute in the Sharks’ 3-0 game against the Flyers. He said, “I didn’t know they had a video”. “It was good. Emotional. Just the passion they have and the love they show for me, it’s incredible.”

In December 2019, Lindblom was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma, a type of bone cancer. He fought his way through it and returned to the ice during the 2020 Playoffs. He’s been a fan favorite since then. Even when he was going through the medical procedures, the fans showed immense love and support to him.

Though now a Shark, he is greatly loved by Philadelphian fans. As of now, he’s completely healthy but doesn’t forget to stay in touch with his past doctors.

He stated, “I talked to my two doctors a couple of days ago, just to see how they’re doing.” “So it’s good, still have them here taking care of me. … They were great to me so I don’t really want to change them.”

He had 1 shot at the goal at 13:11. He noted, “The first period, I wasn’t really there”. “I couldn’t get going really, my mind was just all over the place. But after the first, I felt pretty good. It was fun.”

Sharks coach David Quinn commented, “It was special,” he said. “I’ve only been around him for a short period of time, but I certainly understand why people feel about him the way they do. Not a better human being, I certainly have come to that quick conclusion.”

“… Not surprised with the way the Philadelphia fan base reacted to him. It’s a fan base that’s hard on the opponents but certainly passionate about the teams they have here. He means an awful lot to the hockey community and in particular the Philadelphia hockey community.”
