NHL fans concerned after video of Toronto Maple Leafs security guard viciously manhandling a fan gets viral on social media. The whole situation is still under investigation by the police and Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (MLSE). According to the latest report by Toronto City News, a 37-year-old man was taken into custody.
The incident happened in downtown Toronto around 9:45 p.m. during the Leafs vs. Colorado Avalanche match. In the video, it is seen that a security guard brutally put their knees on a subdued fan while apprehending him. Apparently, the guards kneed the man a couple of times in an attempt to restrain him.
Prior to holding his face to the ground with the guard’s knee on his back, the man seems to be lying face down in a pool of blood. The blood pool reports are not yet confirmed to be of the man officially, but someone in the video was heard screaming, “Hey, come on, get off the f***ing guy man, he’s bleeding! Come on!”, as per CBC report.
Man charged with assault for confronting security guards, as per latest reports
Although the video does not show what led up to the incident, some stated “the man was trying to use a VIP exit with his son when security rag dolled him.” While reports are yet to be confirmed, MLSE made a statement that they are investigating the case.
The MLSE spokesperson said they are cooperating with the Toronto Police Service and “any update will be reserved pending the outcome of the investigation.” During the news release, it was noted that the man “became confrontational” when security guards were allegedly trying to “check on a man’s well-being.”
The arrest call to the police was reportedly made around 9.48 p.m. on January 13 at the ScotiaBank Arena. According to the police, the man assaulted three security guards before getting pinned down by their face flat on the ground. The man is apparently scheduled to appear in court around mid-March on charges of three counts of assault and assault on a police officer.
