Forward J.T. Miller signs $56 million contract extension with Canucks

Forward J.T. Miller agreed to sign a contract extension with the Vancouver Canucks to remain and play with the team for a longer period of time, while also being able to avoid being an unrestricted free agent. He still has one season remaining on his previous 5-year $26.25 million contract with an annual average value of $5.25 million with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2018.
Last season with the Canucks he recorded an NHL career-high of 32 goals, 67 assists, 99 points, 38 power-play points, and 206 shots-on-goal, in 80 games. He was traded by the Lightning to the Canucks on June 2019. The New York Rangers selected him in the 2011 NHL Draft the 15th overall.

Miller agreed to a 7-year $56 million contract extension with the Canucks, earning him an annual average value of $8 million. With all three NHL teams, he recorded a score of 454 points with 169 goals and 285 assists in 637 regular-season games and 44 points with 9 goals and 35 assists in 78 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin said, “J.T. Miller is an impact player in this League and we are thrilled to have him re-signed with the Canucks long term”. “His production last season speaks for itself and his competitive drive provides a standard that our players can look up to. He will continue to be a key piece of this team for years to come.”
Coach Bruce Boudreau told SiriusXM NHL Network Radio, “He’s a Canuck and the other stuff I can’t do anything about”. “So I put him in [my plans] and don’t worry about it. If something were to happen, then I just would adjust to that situation, but I think of J.T. as our No. 1 center and a great hockey player and I’m just glad he’s a Canuck.”
