On Tuesday, forward Tage Thompson agreed to pen down a 7-year $50 million contract with an annual average value of $7.14 million. The contract will be active starting next season. For now, he still has a season remaining from his previous 3-year $4.2 million contract signup.
Last season the 27-year-old scored a record of 38 goals, 30 assists, and 68 points in 78 games. Thompson noted, “I want to be a guy that helps this team win and make the playoffs and win a Stanley Cup, and obviously those are all just words and you’ve got to put that into action.” “I’m excited to be a guy that’s a Buffalo Sabre and I think we’ve got a lot of guys in the room that feel the same way about our team as I do.”
Tage Thompson’s dream comes true after signing a long-term contract with Buffalo Sabres
Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams said, “Tage Thompson embodies the pride we expect from every player who wears the Buffalo Sabres sweater”. “His success last season is a testament to his unrelenting dedication to his craft and commitment to bettering the team both on and off the ice, which we believe will help us reach even greater heights moving forward.”
Thompson’s dream of staying with the team came true as he signed his long-term contract on Tuesday. He was selected in the 2016 NHL Draft the 26th overall in the first round by the St. Louis Blues. With the Blues and Sabres combined, he has a score of 103 points with 56 goals and 47 assists in 223 regular-season games. Later he was traded by the Blues to the Sabres in exchange for forward Ryan O’Reilly on June 1, 2018.
