On Monday the Carolina Hurricanes announced that goalie Frederik Andersen will be out indefinitely. The 34-year-old goaltender underwent medical tests recently following an injury. In these reports, it was found that Andersen is currently suffering from a blood clotting issue.
During the game against the San Jose Sharks, the Danish international was hit in the mask. The team then decided to take him out as a precautionary measure. The team general manager Don Waddell announced this update but did not provide an exact time for his return to the playing field. However, everyone involved is confident that he will make a full recovery.
"During recent medical testing, it was discovered that Frederik Andersen had a blood clotting issue that needed to be addressed. There is currently no timetable for his return, but we are confident that Freddie will be able to make a full recovery."GM Don Waddell said in a team statement.
Frederik Andersen stats so far this season
Injuries are something that every sports fan and player hates. This unfortunate thing cannot be delayed as players keep on getting injured. Frederik Andersen is the latest player to land on the long-term injured reserve (LTIR) list this season.
This season he had been playing well while proving to be a wall in front of the net. The Canes are known for their defensive abilities and Andersen was turning to be a key player in that defensive unit.
In the six games in this season, Andersen had a great 4-1 record. During these games, he managed to maintain a 2.87 GAA with a .894 save percentage. One of the best performances though came against the Philadelphia Flyers as he made 26 stops out of the 28 shots he faced during the game.
The team now has to try and find a way to win without him. His loss could prove to be a big one. The Hurricanes would be hoping that his absence does not cost them the momentum they have collected this season and embark on a losing run.
Canes who are third in their division, take on the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night. It will be a real test of their strength as the team begins their run without their main goaltender in the back of their defense.
