Gary Bettman comes off as barrier in Joel Quenneville’s attempted return to NHL
Joel Quenneville and Gary Bettman
Canadian-American ice hockey coach Joel Quenneville is now itching to be back behind an NHL bench, but National Hockey League Commissioner Gary Bettman is yet to clear his name. After mixing up with Chicago Blackhawk’s Brad Aldrich sex scandal in 2010, Joel resigned in disgrace.
He was the coach of the Florida Panthers when the scandal blew up. Bettman stated that he didn’t have any talks with Joel till May, nor did he express his desire to be back in NHL before this. Since Joel made his decision to come back to the field, he’ll most likely have a chat with Bettman sooner than later.
Whether Joel is now a changed man or not, his actions will prove it. He has to make sure that nothing like the 2010 incident repeats ever in NHL, with any possible team. Once he does have his conversation with Bettman, we’ll see how this issue goes forward.

Darren Dreger on Insider Trading on TSN noted, “He’s ready but he’s not able to get back in the game”. “He would like to return to an NHL bench sooner rather than later. Now any team with interest or offering a job would have to go through the Florida Panthers first for permission.”
“That seems to be a formality but the big hurdle, of course, is commissioner Gary Bettman. Quenneville has to be cleared to return to the NHL by the commissioner’s office – that hasn’t happened yet and there are some who think that it may not happen until next season.”
As far as Joel Quenneville is considered regarding his talent, he’s the 2nd winningest coach in the National Hockey League history. As the head coach on ice, his talent is something to aim for. Any NHL team currently struggling with their position right now may want him to take over the reins.
The teams he has coached have earned him total victories of 1090, trailing only behind Scotty Bowman with 1,244 victories. His peak period came during his time with Chicago Blackhawks. He led the team to 3 Stanley Cup victories between 2010-2015, ending the team’s drought since 1961. Apart from them, he also coached Colorado Avalanche and St. Louis Blues.
