Casey DeSmith signs with Pittsburg Penguins
Goaltender Casey DeSmith agreed to sign a two-year contract with the Pittsburg Penguins, worth $3.6 million on Tuesday. He would have become an unrestricted free agent on 13th July, if not for the sign-up. The contract has an annual average value of $1.8 million.
The 30-year-old goalie has a score of 11-6-5 with a 2.79 goals-against average, a .914 save percentage, and 3 shutouts in 26 games with 24 starts for the Penguins this season. In Game 1 of the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs, he made 48 saves on 51 shots against the New York Rangers.
Casey DeSmith signs with Pittsburg Penguins
Casey DeSmith made 52 saves in a 4-0 win against the Boston Bruins on April 21, the most saves made in a shutout in Pittsburg Penguins history. In Game 1 of the Eastern Conference First Round, he made his Stanley Cup Playoffs debut. On May 6th he had to undergo core muscle surgery after being injured in Game 1.

He was first signed by Pittsburg as an undrafted agent on July 1, 2017, as stated on sportsnet.ca. After his signing, DeSmith scored 43-28-11 with a 2.67 GAA, a .915 save average, and 9 shutouts in 96 regular-season games with 82 starts. He also holds the Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguins record for most saves made during a playoff game.
