“Always proud to be a Maverick” – Goaltender Dryden McKay signs a 2-year contract with AHL’s Toronto Marlies

Dryden McKay, the former Minnesota State goaltender has signed a 2-year contract with the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League. The club announced their penned deal on Monday afternoon. McKay was named 3-times All-American and has won the Hobey Baker Award this 2021-22 season and was named the CCHA Goaltender of the Year.
He had a 38-5-0 record this season, with 1.31 goals and a .931 save percentage in 43 games. McKay set an NCAA record this season with 38 wins and 10 shutouts. In 140 games, McKay scored 113-20-4 with a .932 save percentage and 1.46 goals-against average.

Dryden McKay is the 3rd in the history of the Hobey Baker to win the award, and also the 1st player from Minnesota State to win the trophy. It was stated on news.yahoo.com, that McKay announced the signing of his deal on the social media platform,
“Thank you to everyone in Mankato for an incredible 4 years! Memories and relationships that will last a lifetime. I will always be proud to be a Maverick.”
Earlier this month, McKay had a 6-months suspension for unknowingly taking in traces of banned substances. He won’t be able to report to the Toronto Marlies facility until 25th August. He can participate in the games on October 11 due to a 6-month ineligibility period McKay had to accept on the 14th of April.
McKay will not be eligible to participate with the Maple Leafs while he’s bound to the American Hockey League (AHL) contract. Though it is giving him the opportunity to further develop his skills within their system while being eligible to sign with any NHL team if they are interested.
