Golden Knights center Jack Eichel has been feeling good about his body and seems to be ready to start the upcoming season with his team once more. A lot has been going on, and it sure feels a while since the fans saw him on his skates. The 25-year-old stated, “It’s been a nice offseason”. “I guess more normal than the last two with COVID and then last summer, dealing with what I was dealing with. … So, it’s been good. The body feels good. It’s good to have your health, and looking forward to the year.”
Last season he had to deal with a herniated disc in his neck and how he had to deal with the disagreement with the Buffalo Sabres’ decision regarding his surgery. Their argument was about how Eichel wanted an artificial disc replacement surgery while the Sabres preferred a fusion procedure. On November 4, he got traded to the Golden Knights and eight days later he went through his desired surgical process with the help of his new team.
Jack Eichel is expected to be back on the ice with a full recovery
He finished the season with 25 points with 14 goals and 11 assists in 34 games while scoring 3 points with 1 goal and 2 assists in 8 games with the Golden Knights during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. His team mentioned that for the last six weeks Eichel played with a non-displaced fracture in his thumb. He stated, “Listen, I’m not going to make excuses”. “I don’t think I played well last year in terms of my expectation of myself, and I’m sure the opinion of the public is probably pretty similar. They expect more out of me, and rightfully so.
Jack Eichel further continued, “With that being said, I came off a major surgery after not playing for a year, and I had major spine surgery and played three months after and, so, that’s pretty quick and, you know, like anybody that’s had surgery or went through an injury, it takes a lot of time for you to get back to feeling like yourself.”
He noted how important it was for him to get back to playing hockey again, and in this process of healing and getting stronger, he developed a keen sense of perspective, “I think there are a lot of good things I did last year in terms of away from the puck and working and maybe some areas of my game that maybe I haven’t been good at in the past, but you know, I just want to get back to being that dynamic force that I was before I got hurt and I know I’ll be there.”
