The name of Phil Kessel will definitely go down as one of the greatest players to play hockey. The NHL ‘ironman’ has broken several records over his glorious career. He though once accidentally broke his head after headbutting his own teammate according to his former Vegas Golden Knights teammate Jack Eichel.

The American winger spent only one season with the Golden Knights. He was though able to win the Stanley Cup with them. As he remains an unrestricted free agent, Eichel opened up about a hilarious incident where he and Jonathan Marchessault accidentally headbutted each other.

This incident described by Eichel took place just before a game against the Ottawa Senators. This comical incident though almost cost Kessel the Ironman streak at that time.

Appearing at the Empty Nets Podcast, Eichel informed that the two players would always bicker about who was the strongest and who would win a fight. They would also flinch their heads forward in attempting to headbutt. However, this one time, they both placed their heads together forward resulting in this crash.

I'm actually in the training room doing something and Marchy walks in and he's holding his head and he's bleeding. Two seconds later Phil walks in and he's like 'God damnit eh! Marchy headbutted me, look at this massive egg I've got on my head.

Luckily for Kessel, he was able to continue and play the game. On the other hand, Marchessault had to miss the warm-ups as the trainers took care of his bleeding on the head. It is safe to say that the ‘ironman‘ won this clash.

Phil Kessel reportedly looking to play in Swiss league

The future of Phil Kessel still hangs up in the air. The veteran forward left the Golden Knights after winning his third Stanley Cup and is been looking for a new home since then. He is now reportedly looking into playing some games in the Swiss league in Switzerland.

According to Hockey insider Pierre LeBrun, this is something that the 36-year-old is looking forward to but has not decided it yet. He also reported that Kessel is still awaiting for a knock on his door from the NHL.

A change in scenery could be something that Kessel needs at the moment to show what he still has to offer. His longevity cannot be questioned as he holds the record of 1,064 official appearances in the NHL, thus becoming the ironman of the league.

With age catching up to him, many fans are wondering whether Kessel will ever come back to the NHL. In the meantime, no team has shown genuine interest in him. Thus a move away from the NHL could suit the veteran forward as he aims to end his career on his own terms and not by sitting around as a free agent.
