Passion and aggression are two of the most common things in the world of sports. A passionate player who has some aggression in him soon becomes a hit among the fans. Sometimes the aggression can go over the limit and make the players do something which they might regret later. A similar incident was recorded on Sunday when Jack Hughes and Sebastian Aho decided to keep hockey aside and started wrestling.

The tensions were high when the Carolina Hurricanes and the New Jersey Devils faced off against each other in Game 3. The Hurricanes came into the match leading by 2-0, as the onus was on the Devils to deliver. In a tight battle, Hurricanes forward Sebastian Aho and Devils forward Jack Hughes were seen exchanging a few words and glares before the situation eventually boiled over.

Hughes, who was kept quiet in Game 1, came out firing on all cylinders as he scored two and set up another two. However, the main highlight of the game came when his side where leading 5-1. The Devils forward, who is known for his sportsmanship and is evidently nominated for the Lady Byng award, got caught into in nasty scuffle.

A quick crosscheck by Aho, who had made a similar attempt earlier in the game, made a move toward Hughes. The altercation between the duo saw both of them grab each other down to the ground after exchanging some punches and words. They were then separated by the players from the two sides. Hughes got a two-minute penalty while this counterpart was given four minutes, two more for a crosscheck.

The hunger to strive the way towards victory and glory can get the better of anyone. Emotions are already high when it comes to the latter stages of the competition, and it is easy to lose control. Jack Hughes, who is the front-runner for this year’s Lady Byng award, may have demolished his chance to get that trophy, according to Devils coach Lindy Ruff.

I think that kills his chance for the Lady Byng. And really what was he thinking?” Lindy Ruff said about Hughes after the game. Hughes was lucky as his altercation with Aho did not damage his side’s chances at the game. The Devils were pretty dominant and won the high-scoring encounter 8-4. Goals from Damon Severson, Nico Hischier, and Timo Meier helped them cut the gap to one as they look to make a comeback in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

The eight goals scored by the Devils were the most they had ever scored in a playoff game since 1988. They defeated the Washington Capitals 10-4 on April 22. The Devils will now enter Game 4, hoping for a similar performance. It will be interesting to see how things play out between the two forwards in the next game.
