The Los Angeles Kings vs. New Jersey Devils game on Thursday got heated up during 2nd period when officials penalized both Viktor Arvidsson and Jack Hughes for the skirmish. Kings forward started up the battle as he dealt a heavy blow to Hughes in the head with a late elbow.
Hughes immediately went after him and was walked to the penalty box for roughing up the 30-year-old. Arvidsson on the other hand got a minor for elbowing Hughes but no other calls were made regarding the incident. The hilarious tone of the now-hyped-up X account of the LA Kings got targeted for their response to Hughes’s claim from the penalty box.
Jack Hughes could be seen mouthing “People pay to watch me play” when they were both directed to opposite penalty boxes. Despite his claim, the LA Kings had the last laugh as they won the game 2-1 in Neward, NJ. To Hughes’s response, the Kings on X tweeted, “‘People pay to see me ̶p̶l̶a̶y̶ lose.’ is what we heard.”
Their response ignited the whole Devils fanbase who reminded the Kings of their 0-7 loss to the Buffalo Sabres just a few days ago. One X user commented, “13,292 paid to see your entire team get shut out…sorry..blown out…by the Sabres. In the words of your superfan, Will Ferrell, “Lay low for a while.” While another said, “Don’t forget that y’all got demolished 0-7! We don’t forget!”
Quinton Byfield’s late goal boosts LA Kings to 2-1 victory against NJ Devils
LA Kings Quinton Byfield scored the winning goal in 3rd period, breaking the tie with 5:37 remaining on the clock. The power play tied the game 1-1 but Kings’ Brandt Clarke sent the puck flying which was later taken advantage of by Byfield. He deflected the puck past Devils goalie Nico Daws to boost the Kings 2-1 ahead of Devils.
Their win came as a crucial boost to the LA Kings who dream of chasing the 2024 Stanley Cup. The game witnessed several highlight moments, with surely, Jack Hughes and Viktor Arvidsson’s chirping as one of them.
Apart from this skirmish, Kings captain Anze Kopitar made a significant contribution to the team’s success. His short-handed goal in 2nd period opened the scoring points for LA that eventually led to their win. The Kings secured their third victory in four games. They’ll once again have the chance to air out their rivalry on March 3rd as they face the Devils once again.
