New York Rangers vs. New Jersey Devils game lit up further following Jacob Trouba’s massive hit on Timo Meier. The adrenaline-rushed game was pushed past its limit as the arena thumped with anticipation of either team’s goals.
Devils fans were left stunned as NHL didn’t penalize Trouba on the hit. According to the NHL rule book, this old-fashioned hit is considered passable, but fans find it hard to believe. During the video review, it was noted that the Devils forward was leaning in a vulnerable position when Trouba crushed him with a shoulder hit.
Meier was flat on the ice for a good minute before heading into the locker room. Thankfully, the 26-year-old returned to the bench later in the third period. His return relieved the fans a bit as his return was quite questionable after the brutal collision.

Rangers were trailing behind Devils as they took a 2-0 lead in the game. Some argue that Jacob Trouba in an attempt to hype up his team went for the hit, while others stated that it was purely an accident. Whatever the intent was behind, the hit could’ve sent Timo Meier long into IL.
Despite the huge ruckus, the Rangers were beaten by the Devils in a 4-0 record, advancing to Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Playoff round. Trouba is no stranger to borderline hits and he’s quite famous in that aspect. The hit came in the opening 3 minutes of the game sparking a controversy over the incident.
Despite the massive collision, the two players had a good handshake after the game. Their attitude highlighted the sportsmanship attitude and was praised by all. According to Clutch Points, after the game Meier’s nose appeared to be quite “beaten up” and bloodied, marking the signs of the aftermath.
Both Rangers and Devils goalies, Igor Shesterkin and Akira Schmid played a crucial role in Game 7 to keep their teams alive. Earlier on Thursday, Timo Meier made his presence known to the Rangers as he planted a goal past Shesterkin while having an intense stare showdown.
Furthermore, he shoved Rangers defenceman Jacob Trouba who thrashed the Devils captain Nico Hischier along the boards just a few minutes earlier. Both Trouba and Meier are headstrong players refusing to back out from any brawl. The Devils will now face Hurricanes in Game 2.
