Boston Bruins winger Jake DeBrusk enjoyed his retribution match against Vegas Golden Knights coach Bruce Cassidy on Sunday night in Las Vegas. Last week on Monday, the Golden Knights visited the Bruins where the team tasted glory with a 4-3 win.

That wasn’t all! The B’s now visiting the home ice of Golden Knights, destroyed them in a 3-1 win, returning Monday’s favor against the Knights. The 1-1 tie in the third period got broken by DeBrusk’s game-clinching goal.

Although, the winning shot wouldn’t have been possible without Pavel Zacha’s assistance. His assist helped DeBrusk bury the shot, as it helped him attain success in his revenge against Cassidy.

While Bruce Cassidy was a coach to the Bruins, he developed some sour relationship with the 26-year-old winger. Cassidy’s “tough love” didn’t quite sit well with Jake DeBrusk, as he got scratched from the roster lineup in a game.

Soon after their quarrel blew up so much that the left-winger decided to change teams and end his contract in November 2021. Though things calmed down in time, he rescinded his decision. Furthermore, DeBrusk signed a contract extension with the Boston Bruins.

DeBrusk admitted to NESN’s  Sophia Jurksztowicz that the goal felt, “A lot”. “It’s one of those things that — just pure emotion, and yeah, felt really good. That was awesome.” He didn’t need to say anything more than that as his grinning expression expressed enough.

After Cassidy was fired from the Bruins, the team has now been thriving under their new coach Jim Montgomery. DeBrusk’s current career high is 27 goals and 27 assists. In 26 games he recorded 20 points with 9 goals and 11 assists, his eyes are set on surpassing his career high for now.

As per NBC Sports, earlier on “Toucher and Rich” radio show, Cassidy talked about DeBrusk stating, “I like Jake as a person. He’s a good guy, he’s low-maintenance, good teammate”. “My issue with him has always been about pushing him, holding him accountable, (being a) second-effort type of player. Some players respond differently to that than others, so I’ve got to adjust, and so does he.”

Cassidy till then acting as Bruins coach stated that he sees potential in DeBrusk and he can act as a key player in the upcoming Stanley run. Things changed during the summer, as Cassidy was forced to leave the team and later accept a deal with the Vegas Golden Knights.

During the confrontation with Cassidy as Bruins’ coach, he admitted, “Right now we’re both Boston Bruins, and he’s played well for us, to be honest with you”. “We’re glad to have him, and he’s a good hockey player. He can help us win a Stanley Cup and everyone’s happy.

“I don’t know what will happen this summer. That will be up to him and his representatives and (general manager Don Sweeney) to sort through that. But he can be a good player for us, and we all acknowledge that.”
