It was a good weekday start for the Dallas Stars as goalie Jake Oettinger made 23 saves against the Winnipeg Jets, helping the team secure their victory. The team won 4-1 at American Airlines Center on Monday. 

Though Oettinger’s saves won the game, it’s still worth noting how he allowed 3 goals on 87 shots at the start of the season. The Stars also won against the Nashville Predators by 4-1 and 5-1 on Thursday and Saturday.

Stars coach Peter DeBoer stated, “I didn’t love our start, our first 10 minutes”. “I thought we worked into the game. I thought we got better as the game went on. Obviously, Jake made some saves in order to allow us to kind of work into it, some key saves at key moments.”

Center Tyler Seguin commented, “Our opportunities this year just feel a little different”. “Lot more on the rush. Just playing a lot quicker. Our [defense] is really moving that puck up quick and our forwards are getting open and it’s hard to stop.”

On the loss, Jets coach Scott Arniel said, “He’s a good, young goaltender and if you don’t get enough traffic, you don’t crash the net for second, third opportunities, if he sees stuff, he’s going to stop it”. Center Mark Scheifele and Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck scored and made 25 saves, though it fell short of their win.

Defenceman Josh Morrissey said, “They transition well”. “They track hard. They don’t give you a whole lot through the neutral zone. We had a hard time establishing our forecheck in the second period and it fit into their strengths. It’s a learning opportunity for us.”
