This past weekend in NHL, the celebrations were in full swing in Pittsburgh as a legend returned to them. Jaromir Jagr came back to the place where he won two Stanley Cups and spent 11 years of his life which resulted him seeing his jersey number be retired.
Jagr became just the third player in Pittsburgh Penguins history to see his number being placed in the rafters after club legend Mario Lemieux and Місhеl Βrіеrе. On Saturday, he would dazzle the crowd when he took to the ice for a practice session.
On Sunday, the players decided to honor him themselves before the celebrations even begun. All of them would don Jagr’s mullet hairstyle and sweater while hitting the ice for the warm-ups. As they slowly walked out, the fans would cheer on. However, the biggest cheers came when Jagr himself walked out at the very end.
While the fans were not only impressed with what they saw, they were equally happy to see Sidney Crosby participate in the celebrations. The Pens captain had previously revealed he was excited to be part of this celebrations. A video of him doing his usual pre-game logo warm-up with Jagr’s sweater and mullet has come viral on social media leaving users buzzing.
Jaromir Jagr claims Pittsburgh years to be best moments of his life
During his speech at the jersey retirement ceremony, Jaromir Jagr opened up about his time in Pittsburgh. He would claim this to be best moments of his life as he looked back at his historic career.
Jagr was selected in the 1990 draft by the Penguins. He would go on to form a formidable partnership with Mario Lemieux. The two play a huge role in the Pens going back-to-back in 1992 and 1993 as Stanley Cup champions.
In his prolific career with the Penguins, Jagr scored 439 goals while picking up 1,079 points, fourth only to Lemieux and future Hall of Famers Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin.
The whole 11 years I’ve been here, it was amazing. I’m probably gonna say, it was probably the best years of my life. So, thank you for that.

The 52-year-old hockey legend would also speak about the ‘Celebrate 68’ event which highlighted his career throughput the course of the weekend. He would later take a page out of his former coach Bob Johnson’s book and expressed how much the day meant for him.
I remember my first coach, Bob Johnson, always said today, it’s a great day for hockey. I’m going to use that, I’m going to change it a little bit. I’m going to say, it’s a great day for me!

The Penguins might have ended up losing the game 2-1 to the Los Angeles Kings, however their main focus was on Jagr only. He now proudly takes his place in Penguins folklore as one of the greatest to ever play the game for them.
