“The best solution” – Jesse Puljujarvi inks one-year $3 million contract with Oilers, avoids arbitration hearing

Jesse Puljujarvi signs one year contract with Edmonton Oilers

Winger Jesse Puljujarvi pens down a 1-year $3 million deal with the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday. The 24-year-old was a restricted free agent but he successfully avoided a salary arbitration hearing on Friday. He has a career-high of 36 points last season with 14 goals and 22 assists in 65 games, and 3 points with 2 goals and 1 assist in 16 playoff games for the Oilers.

Ken Holland, the general manager for the Oilers commented, “I think the one year was the best solution”. “Jesse got off to a great start, then he kind of had a tough finish. I don’t think either side really knows where he’s at. And when you’re in those kinds of situations, it’s easier to do a one-year deal than something with any kind of term.”

During the 2016 NHL Draft, Jesse Puljujarvi was selected in the first round by the Edmonton Oilers. With the team, he has recorded a total of 98 points with 46 goals and 52 assists in 259 regular-season games and 5 points with 3 goals and 2 assists in 20 playoff games.

About his move from the Oilers, Holland clearly noted, “I would say in Jesse’s case, I’m comfortable if he’s back,”. “We’re at the cap, and anything that we do is going to be a dollar in, dollar out, so I’m still trying to figure out if there is anything out there that is going to make us better. I’m not 100 percent sure, but I’m happy to get him signed.”

According to nhl.com, the Oilers finished 49-27-6 in the Pacific Division during last season and were swept by the Colorado Avalanche in the Western Conference Finals. Later they signed forward Evander Kane, and defenceman Brett Kulak to a 4-year contract, and goalie Jack Campbell to a 5-year contract on July 13th.
