On Tuesday, Montreal Canadiens winger Jonathan Drouin partnered with the media for his fifth annual golf tournament where he declared that this year’s event will be dedicated to Guy Lafleur who passed away earlier on 22 April. This event is held in regard to benefit the CHUM Foundation.

Drouin stated, “I’m dedicating the tournament to Guy this year. He was great to me and a real mentor. He was always calm and always took time out for people – men, women, and children. He took the time to talk to them and spend time with them. What really stood out, though, was his calm demeanor with everybody.”

Drouin expressed how tough it was on him after Guy’s passing away. He said that Guy was a great mentor to him, and he has spent some of the most memorable moments together. Though it was clear that Drouin was upset as he didn’t get to see the great Guy Lafleur’s era, as his parents enjoyed, he seemed content with all the moments spent with “The Flower”.

He noted in memories of Guy, “I watched a lot of videos. The first photograph I got from my grandfather was an autographed picture of Guy Lafleur, so it was an emotional day when he died. It’s a real void.” Guy was deeply involved with CHUM in recent years. He said to Drouin, ‘I would’ve loved to have done more at your age.’

Earlier Guy praised Drouin for his work in participating actively in golf charity events. The latter admitted how his encouragement and advice have helped him dream of big things in his career. Drouin’s not only involved with CHUM but has been an active participant for various other children and hospitals. Guy was not only a legendary NHL player but also a good person too.
