Calgary Flames winger and alternate captain Jonathan Huberdeau has finally started putting together his cogs in place. In Thursday’s game against the Seattle Kraken, he made the game-winning goal. The team is now 17-13-7 after the 3-2 win over Kraken.
While Kraken currently with a point score of 18-11-4 so far. Flames fans erupted in the arena after Huberdeau shot the goal. His teammates weren’t far behind as they mobbed the player, patting, hugging, and high-fiving. Sure it must have been a regular goal for a player, but the weight of it was surely felt by the 29-year-old.
Now with the advantage of getting into the third slot in the Pacific Division standings, Huberdeau has finally started acknowledging his problems. It’s not unknown to anyone in the NHL world how he reacted to his trade news from Florida Panthers.
Jonathan Huberdeau scores game-winning goal against Seattle Kraken
Jonathan Huberdeau getting traded from the Panthers hit him quite hard. Coming into the 2022-23 season with the new Flames team, he couldn’t settle down and avoided scoring even the easiest points. He is a great passer and even coach Darryl Sutter admitted his plus points.
Unfortunately, a player like Huberdeau is not just meant to pass the puck, but to score heavy points. In past games, he always sent the puck to his teammates as he was afraid to shoot. Putting the game-winning puck in the net against the Kraken helped him move a step closer to the player he was before.
During an interview after the game, Huberdeau admitted, “Even when I shot it, I was thinking pass”. “Like, I don’t know what’s going on in my head. It was quick but it was still, I was like, ‘Ah, I should pass it.’ “But then I was like, ‘Hey, just shoot it.’ ”
Later he laughingly added, “I think I have to see a psychologist or something for that”. “I think that’s going to come, shooting more. But I think it’s been better in the past few games, and I have to build off that.” Now with Huberdeau overcoming his fear, the Flames are ready to cook up some tasty spices in the upcoming games.
“You always want to help your team to win, so that was good”. “You feel better when you wake up the next day and you know you helped the team, and that’s what I wanted,” Huberdeau added. His first cog started moving when he faced his former team, the Panthers last month. It surely was an emotional day for the winger.
Even Flames coach Sutter commented, “You look at Jonathan (Huberdeau), that was an emotional time for him and I think that’s why he had a hard time early. He wasn’t expecting to be traded out of Florida. That was hard for him. Now his game is where you want it to be, but that takes time.”
Prior to the game with the Panthers, Huberdeau stated, according to FlaHockeyNow, “It was tough”. “I was emotional when I got the news but coming back here is kind of closing everything.”
”I might get booed”. “I know I gave everything I had here. We’ll see. That was 10 years of my life, my career and this was home to me. Hopefully I get a good ovation.”
