Prior to his NHL debut, Jonathan Toews ranked 3rd among the North American Prospects by the NHL Bureau. He was chosen by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2006 NHL Draft and made his ice debut on October 10, 2007, against the San Jose Sharks.

He quickly found himself a rival-cum-friend in Patrick Kane, as both battled it out on ice leading the team accordingly. Along with Chicago Blackhawks Nicklas Backstrom, the duo got selected for the Calder Memorial Trophy. Toews became the team captain on July 18, the following year of his debut.

He led the team to win their first Stanley Cup since 2002 with 69 points in 82 games. In 2010 he won the Conn Smythe Trophy while becoming a part of the Triple Gold Club as the youngest player. On June 24, 2015, he was the recipient of the Mark Meisser Leadership Award.

Fast-forwarding his career to the 2019-20 season, Toews reached the 800-career point milestone by adding a score of 18 goals and 42 assists during the season. He missed the entire 2021 season due to chronic immune response syndrome. He played his 1000th game on March 31, 2022.
